Tensions flared at a nursing home in Baguiati as the family of 19-year-old Meenakshi Bairagi Sarkar accused the facility of medical negligence leading to her death during a tonsil operation. Meenakshi, a resident of Dumdum Cantonment, was admitted to the nursing home on VIP Road in Baguiati following a doctor's recommendation for immediate surgery to address a throat infection.
The operation, conducted by Dr. Rahul Sarkar, took place on January 25, and despite initial assurance of Meenakshi's health, the family alleges that she was found writhing in pain after the surgery. Subsequently, she was shifted to the ICU and, to the family's shock, Meenakshi succumbed to her condition, leading to accusations of medical negligence. The police from Baguiati police station intervened to control the situation, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
The family claims that Meenakshi's deteriorating condition went unattended, asserting that there was no doctor present in the hospital when she was moved to the ICU. Allegations of medical negligence prompted the bereaved family to stage a protest at the nursing home.
